Ander Herrera feels Rooney Come back will help MU
Ander Herrera reckons that the return of star striker Wayne Rooney will help Manchester United ease their goalscoring problems in the business end of the campaign.
The forward may not be in a good form for the last couple of seasons, but he remains a figurehead for the club. Opposition defenders still fear at the prospect of facing the England captain. A return of just 11 goals in 30 appearances for United speaks volumes of the troubles faced by Rooney and the club as a whole in the 2015-16 campaign. One has to go back to the 2011-12 campaign in which Rooney scored more than 20 goals in an entire season.
As a result, there is growing pressure on young striker Anthony Martial to come up with the goals. The Frenchman has responded in brilliant fashion by recently scoring the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win over Everton. Still, United can do with goals from other players like Rooney. After spending a spell on the sidelines due to an injury, the striker is set to return for the club’s next match against Tottenham. The title chasing team will be hosting the Red Devils at White Hart Lane intent on winning at all costs.
Herrerasays that the return of Rooney will help United on the counter-attacks.”He’s the top scorer for us this season, he usually is the top scorer of this club.We are going to count with him hopefully next game, so it is better for everyone.I always say that when you have competition in the team it is better for everyone in the team.It is going to be better for Anthony [Martial], it is going to be better for Marcus [Rashford], it is going to be better for Jesse [Lingard] — players who can play there,” saidHerrera.
