Wayne Rooney confident of keeping hold of Manchester United goalscoring record

Everton striker Wayne Rooney does not feel anyone will manage to break his Manchester United goalscoring record unless his former club decide to sign one of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The England international ended his 13-year association with United earlier in the summer after it was known that his chances in the starting lineup would be restricted at Manchester United. Rooney was largely used from the substitutes’ bench during the previous campaign, and it was not until the final stages of the Premier League season, had he earned a regular role in the starting lineup.

In a report by Metro, Rooney is quite confident of preserving his scoring record of 253 goals which he achieved after surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton’s tally earlier in January. When asked on whether his feat would ever be broken, Rooney admitted that it would be hard as players don’t tend to stay at one club for long periods of time. However, the Englishman believes that former teammate Ronaldo and Barcelona star Messi could be two potential candidates, who could threaten his record. ROONEY CONTINUES TO WISH ENGLAND WELL

Wayne Rooney sent the England national team good luck messages as they prepare for their clash against Scotland in the World Cup qualifiers.

The player is on vacation in Greece where he is enjoying an extended summer break after being snubbed from the Three Lions set-up.

Gareth Southgate complained that Rooney was not getting top level football so he went with the other options. Rooney took to Instagram to wish the team well, posting: “Good luck to the lads against Scotland today. Do the business @England.”

Rooney is no longer an automatic option for club and country as his form drops. With United set to add two strikers this summer, things do not look for him. Even Marcus Rashford has overtaken the star in the pecking order. United could sign Alvaro Morata and Andrea Belotti soon as Jose Mourinho wants the best legs at the club. Wayne Rooney is Less Dangerous as it was in preliminary juncture

People suggest Wayne Rooney is not as dangerous an attacker as he was in the preliminary juncture of his career and he has lost bite, but, Rooney reckons it is not possible for a Footballer to stay the same forever.

Coming through the years, a Footballer takes a different approach.

As per England skipper, at a teen age, the personality of a Footballer is raw. His energy level is high, but, he lacks Football knowledge. However, as he ages, he matures, learns tricks and not just relies on his energy. He gets organized and a lot of thought process goes into what he does on the pitch and that way, he actually offers more to his side than what he would do earlier with all the rawness he had.

In the words of the forward turned attacking midfielder, “I often hear people try to compare Rooney of now to the teenager Rooney. You would surely find differences if you make that comparison because it’s obvious.”

Roy Hodgson is expected to name a young squad for the Euro 2016

England manager Roy Hodgson is expected to name a young squad for the Euro 2016 and this represents a great opportunity for these players to establish themselves in the national team according to Sir Geoff Hurst. The likes of John Stones, Harry Kane, and Ross Barkley are some of the youngsters expected to feature in this major competition. They have been doing exceedingly well for their respective clubs. This has earned them occasional chances in the international team, but they remain starved of opportunities at a major tournament.

Spain have been able to win major trophies with a young squad largely because they have gained experience of playing in a tournament over several years. Sir Geoff Hurst says that a major part of the success for the national team during the 1966 World Cup was achieved because many young players had already evolved to play against the best in the world. The likes of Alan Ball and Martin Peters were just starting to make their name as a footballer on the international scene. They played a starring role in the World Cup that was won by England.Geoff Hurst says that the young players for 2016 should grasp the opportunity at the Euro 2016. Roy Hodgson believes that Wayne Rooney is thriving as the captain of the England national team

England boss Roy Hodgson believes that Wayne Rooney is thriving as the captain of the England national team.

The Manchester United striker was recently seen leading his club team and this responsibility has also been carried over to the national team. Rooney has always been a player who leads by the example even without the armband. The work rate and the exemplary commitment shown by the 29-year-old is second to none. These attributes have only increased after being given the captain’s armband according to Hodgson. There was a danger of Rooney’s performances dropping due to the extra workload, but this has not happened so far.

Rooney has managed to lead England onto some great results during the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign. The three Lions are expected to head into the finals in France as one of the favourites for the title. England have managed to secure a maximum 18 points from the opening six matches of the qualification group. This has helped most to forget the extremely poor World Cup 2014 in which the team even failed to qualify beyond the group stages. Getting the captain’s armband has not really affected the goal record for England. Rooney is on course to break the record held by Bobby Charlton.
